The West Elmira Police Department and the Town of Elmira are now accepting applications for School Crossing Guards. The West Elmira Police Department is seeking to fill a vacancy in the School Crossing Guard Alternate position. Alternates are responsible for covering school crossings when the regular School Crossing Guards are unavailable. West Elmira School Crossing Guards are responsible for safely crossing students attending the Hendy Avenue School in West Elmira. They control the two (2) student crossings on W. Water Street and W. Church Street. West Elmira School Crossing Guards work a brief morning shift and a brief afternoon shift. They are paid $24.29 per day and only work when school is in session. Previous experience is valued but not required. School Crossing Guards are required to stand for the duration of their shift and must observe both approaching students and motor vehicles. Applicants should not have any physical or visual impairments that would prevent them from safely crossing students. A medical screening or an eye exam may be required for employment. A background check will be completed as part of the pre-employment process. Employment applications may be found on the Town of Elmira website or picked up at the Town of Elmira Town Hall located at 1255 W. Water Street Elmira, NY 14905.
